Cannabis and PTSD

How can plant-based cannabinoids offer benefits for PTSD? Read Bonni Goldstein MD's summary of the research on cannabis and PTSD.

Post-traumatic stress disorder is a challenging condition that can cause nightmares, anxiety, and intrusive memories long after a traumatic event. Cannabinoids have been explored as a treatment to help reduce these symptoms. A 2022 study of combat veterans with chronic PTSD who remained severely symptomatic despite  numerous conventional treatments were found to have significantly improved sleep, as well as improvements in overall PTSD symptoms. For many, cannabinoids may offer an alternative option with a favorable safety profile, especially when conventional therapies are not effective or poorly tolerated.
