Cannabis and Menopause

How can plant-based cannabinoids offer benefits for Menopause? Read Bonni Goldstein MD's summary of the research on cannabis and Menopause.

Endometriosis and menstrual pain are increasingly understood to involve endocannabinoid system deficiencies, which may contribute to heightened pain and inflammation. Emerging evidence suggests that cannabinoids, particularly CBD, can help alleviate these symptoms. A recent survey-based study evaluating a CBD vaginal suppository used for menstrual pain found significant reductions in symptom severity and frequency, decreased need for other pain medications and improved daily functioning compared to usual care. Most participants reported at least moderate improvement. Real world data from 252 women with endometriosis showed pain was the most frequently treated symptom, gastrointestinal symptoms showed the greatest self-reported improvement. Together, these reports highlight that women are finding cannabinoids to be an effective and safe option for managing menstrual pain and endometriosis-related symptoms.
