Cannabis and Mixed Pain
Mixed pain refers to chronic pain that has both nerve-related and tissue-related components, which makes it especially difficult to treat with standard medications. The 2017 National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine concluded that there is substantial evidence that cannabinoid compounds can be effective in treating chronic pain in adults. More recent studies, including a 2022 systematic review in the journal Pain Medicine, found that cannabinoids can reduce pain severity and improve quality of life for people with difficult-to-treat chronic pain. For many patients, cannabinoids offer a safer alternative or complement to opioids and other medications, providing relief where other therapies have failed. Working with a knowledgeable practitioner can lead to better results and minimal side effects.
