Cannabis and Fibromyalgia

How can plant-based cannabinoids offer benefits for Fibromyalgia? Read Bonni Goldstein MD's summary of the research on cannabis and Fibromyalgia.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition characterized by widespread pain, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. Cannabinoids, such as CBD, CBG, CBDA and others, interact with the body's endocannabinoid system, which helps to regulate pain, mood and sleep. A notable study involving 367 fibromyalgia patients found that after 6 months of cannabinoid treatment, pain intensity decreased significantly and many patients reported improved quality of life. Additionally, a another study of 30 patients with treatment-resistant fibromyalgia observed improvements in pain, fatigue, and daily functioning following just 30 days of cannabinoid-based treatment. Patients considering cannabinoid therapy should consult with a healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate treatment plan to maximize benefits.
